Life Of Emma Miller
An Autobiography With Personal Recipes
Take a trip down memory lane with our grandma, Emma Miller, born in 1901, as she recounts how her Amish life was like growing up in Colorado, Indiana, and Michigan in the days of cowboys, log cabins, the Great Depression, WW II, and when eggs were 12¢ a dozen. From near scrapes with death to the humorous, make sure you have plenty of time when you begin reading. Emma’s life was one of making do with what she had or doing without. Even during the difficult time of the Great Depression or the World Wars, foods were concocted that were made with ingredients they could afford like “War Sugarless Cake.” Cookbooks were scarce back then. Many women recorded recipes in their own handwriting in a small recipe book. Emma’s personal, handwritten recipe collection contains over 160 original recipes some of which are her own creation. We hope you will appreciate their originality.
